Do you need a Bucket list?

You may be wondering, ‘Do you need a bucket list?

A quick way to find out if you need a bucket list is to ask yourself the three following questions:

  1. Do you live the life you expected to have did it turn out how you dreamt about it?
  2. Do you love and have the great relationships you deserve?
  3. Did your life make a difference and will you be remembered by others when you are not around anymore?

If you answered no to any of these questions, read on to find out how you can change that.

Do You need a bucket list

If you’re thinking about starting a bucket list, it’s important to set out right away some of your motivations and reasoning. When you’re able to write these out onto a piece of paper, you’ve taken a huge step toward accomplishing your dreams.

Focus on the why, rather than the how

When starting to build their bucket list, most people try to focus on the how:

  • How will I become healthier?
  • How will I become rich?
  • How do I become happy?

Instead of focusing on how to achieve the results you want, you should focus on why. When you have strong reasoning for why you want to achieve a certain goal on your list, you will find that it’s much easier to figure out how to accomplish it.

The Bigger the Why the Easier the How

This famous quote by T. Harv Eker illustrates a big reason why some people find it difficult to build the motivation to accomplish their goals. If you don’t want it bad enough, chances are you won’t do what it takes to get it.

How to apply this to your bucket list

Next time you work on your bucket list, try to add a reason beside every goal you set. By knowing why you’re aiming for something, you are much more likely to follow through with it. This simple technique should increase the chances of reaching your goals and will be quite enlightening for many people.

One thing to remember is that you need to give yourself a positive reason of why you want to do it. Choosing something like “I want to lose 20 lbs because I look horrible” won’t motivate you to lose 20 lbs. Rather, it will hinder your performance by hurting your self-confidence. My advice is to use positive statements such as “I want to lose 20 lbs so I can look great at my sisters wedding.”

If you’re finding that you aren’t living the life you expected, struggle to have the relationships you want with others, or may not be remembered for changing the lives of other people, a bucket list is exactly what you need. When you begin compiling your bucket list, it’s important to think about why you’re choosing the goals you do. Once you have a reason for your goal, you will find that you not only work harder to achieve your goal, but your chances of losing interest will decrease.
